Potential Internship Sites

Last night we were divided into groups, based on area of interest, to go out for supper. My group was led by the poet that teaches the arts in the city course I will be taking. We went to a Thai resturaunt after discovering her favorite Mexican restaraunt had closed down. It was very tasty. I almost ordered squid, then decided I would rather play it safe than go hungry for $10... Chicken Deluxe seemed a more reasonable alternative. The iced coffee was excellent. My group did not make it back in time for the session on urban safety, but I checked out the notes on the board and talked to a few people about what I'd missed.

This morning was a huge breakfast, really fancy and really good and most importantly, really free. Then we had a session on interviewing followed by one on housing. I guess the housing situation is not as good as it used to be. There are only two major options rather than three. That's fine with me, I'm not too concerned with where I'm going to be living. The downtown one with the pool on the roof would be amazing but... uh.... yeah....$$$$$$$$. Took at group picture at Millenium park, which I haven't had much time to check out yet. Then we got in groups alphabetically by first name to go for lunch. It's kinda funny, there was a group with five sara's (of various spellings) and one steve. There were three Rebecca's (of various spellings) in my group. We went to a place called CozĂ, which is like a really fancy version of subway, only with soup, salads, coffee, and a bar. Had another iced coffee which did not compare with the Thai one the night before.

After lunch a session on using the CTA, Chicago Transit Authortiy, which consists of the el (subway) and busses. Then we found out about our internship interviews. Drumroll please...
The interviews I have lined up are at:
  • Edelman Public Relations Worldwide - www.edelman.com
  • Field Museum of Natural History - www.fmnh.org
  • Euro RSCG Worldwide - www.eurorscgchicago.com
  • Cretors, Inc. - www.cretors.com
  • Ogilvy & Mather - www.ogilvy.com
  • Nature Conservancy/Illinois Chapter - www.nature.org/illinois
I thought I would have two, maybe 3 interviews at the most. I am really excited, yet really overwhelmed right now by the number of possibilities and their diversity. Tonight is yet another group outting to eat. It really is a good way to get to know people. We're going to a French place. I'm curious to see what kind of food that will be... probably French bread, French fries and French toast... or maybe not...

I'm Here

Josh decided to come along to drop me off today. Good thing...that way he could wait with the car while Kris helped me with luggage. I'm on the 8th floor of the Hotel. It seems like a really nice place. i decided to take my computer along. I originally planned to not have it with me during orientation, but since there's wireless connection here I think it'll be super nice to have. We stopped for lunch at a place called Tomato Head Pizza Kitchen. I had a burger... I wasn't really in the mood for pizza, even if that's what Chicago is famous for. They're playing Verve Remixed Vol. 2 in the lobby here. I have never in my life heard anyone other than myself playing that cd. I think I'm gonna like this place....

From a Davenport in Davenport

I typed this in Reichert's living room earlier...

For two nights I'm staying in Davenport at my sister and brother-in-law's place. Yesterday my dad and I checked out the river. I tried to photograph some huge frogs, but they were not interested. LaterI walked down to the mall and hung out at Barnes and Noble for a while. Played some settlers and Red Dead Revolver today. For anyone wondering, Red Dead Revolver is pretty much the sweetest X-box game ever. Tomorrow morning at 8 or 9 Kris and I are leaving for Chicago. I'm supposed to be there around 2:30. The first orientation session starts at 3:30.

Right now I am at Josh's hotel. They have wireless access here so I had to wait to come here to post. There is a 1000 gallon fish tank in the lobby of the hotel. No fish in it yet though...

Last day in Sioux Center

It took me over an hour, but I finally got some addresses together and send out the email telling people about this blog. Sorry to anyone I missed.

I was wrong in that last post...taste of sioux center was thursday, not wednesday. It went pretty well except that at the last minute I decided to bring popcorn in addition to the posters, so I made popcorn instead of having lunch... consequently I got really light headed while handing out ten billion posters... Meg helped me out though, so I survived. And about that game of Cities and Knights... I played the other night with Bob, Mic, and Neesh (sorry if messed up the spelling there). Mic had a pretty decisive victory. I didn't play very well at all.

I still haven't printed the final draft of my portfolio, so I better get working on that.

Alright... I might be getting the hang of this now. I guess it's not so complicated. I just hope that I'll actually keep it up instead of posting nonstop for the first week and then nothing for a year. I worked on my portfolio for a while today. It's pretty sad looking. I don't have anything decent to put in it. Later I went through a bunch of posters at the theatre to figure out which ones should be given away at the "taste of sioux center" on wednesday. It's pretty much an indoor fair where local businesses give away pens, magnets, and stuff. And then there's the theatre. We give people our garbage... old posters. I might do some sort of trivia questions that have to be answered, but I'll probably just give them all away. There are probably a couple hundred. I have a lot of stuff I should do before I leave for Chicago, but I really just want to hang out. It's not fun having to leave right after everyone gets here. I'm hoping for a game of Cities & Knights yet before I leave.

welcome to roblog

I set up one of these blog deals a while back, but i never really used it. I thought I'd get it set up before i head to chicago. I think a weblog will be easier than mass emails. They can be pretty entertaining too...i think... i hope mine will be... i can only hope it will be as interesting as Sam's, Kevin's, Jack's, and Brielle's blogs.
