I'm pretty tired and I've got a lot of stuff to do so I'll keep this short. Photos (in no particular order) are my cousin Abby, My uncle's dog Sassy, and the cup of coffee Grandpa made for me in a french press on Thanksgiving morning. I had a super-relaxing break which pretty much consisted of eating, sleeping, and reading... with a little scrabble and trivial pursuit thrown in. I took the train part of the way back to Chicago... first time riding the metra... it went pretty smoothly. Alright... I'm too tired now... time for bed...good night all.

Walk the Line

Walk the Line was an excellent movie. I was a little surprised, but definitely not disappointed. Go see it. On Saturday I went to the museum of Science and Industry. There is some cool stuff there, but most of it is presented waaay to much like school. A whole lot of reading and that sort of thing. On Saturday night I went to the Michigan Avenue Lights Festival Parade or whatever that whole mess is called. Never again. So many people packed on the sidewalk to see some Disney characters on floats. Sunday morning I went with Lisa and Sarah to the South Loop CRC. One of the practicum group leaders at CS is the pastor there. We had free thanksgiving dinner after the service. It was super good. The people at the church were all really friendly. I may go back there even though the piano was severely out of tune.

some photos

Here are some photos from Friday and Saturday night. One is the lookingglass theater where we saw the play and across the street after the play there were two guys tap dancing on a board while another guy played drums. It was pretty impressive. I think the other photo is of everybody waiting for the potatoes in the oven.

A Prayer Request

The art director that sits two desks away from me, Sam, bikes to work every day. I just found out that last night he was hit by a car and is in the hospital with broken ribs and a broken vertebrae. I don't know much else. Please remember him in your prayers.

Manuscript Found At Saragossa

The play on Friday night was really good. There were people swinging in from ropes on the ceiling and all kinds of other neat tricks. I don't really know how to explain the story. It's just pretty much strange.

Walk the Line comes out on Friday! It's still got a 100 on Rotten Tomatoes (there aren't that many reviews yet... but still... it's kicking Harry Potter's butt.

We didn't end up going to the gym at all this weekend. I worked on my paper instead.

Then on Saturday night we had a "Baked Potato Build" with around a dozen people in Nate and Young's room. Then we played Apples to Apples even though everyone is Appled out. We played True Colors as well, but most people didn't really know everyone there, so it wasn't the best game ever. It was totally based on stereotyping and prejudice.

Nate, Lisa, Joe, Amber, Kristin, and I went to Park Community church on Sunday morning only to find out that the service was in a different building a mile or so away. We got there before the sermon started, but there was not a single seat left. We sat on the floor in the balcony.

Later on Sunday we watched Crash. The cinematography is really good in that movie. I think I liked it, but a lot of it is just hard to watch. They should've called that movie "Hate Actually" (cuz it's a lot like love actually... only not at all).

Concerts and Such

One of these pictures is the bass player from Shout Out Louds. One is me... with really bad hair... but very excited to see the Shout Out Louds. There were two bands that openned for them The Sun and Essex Green. Essex Green wasn't great, but The Sun was actually really good. They probably actually played better than the Shout Out Louds. They were very together and put on a good show. The lead singers glasses kept falling off... it was kinda funny.

Yesterday morning I ran into a friend on the train to work and he said he'd bought tickets to a punk concert for like $24 and wasn't going to be able to make it and that he wanted me to go for him. So I did. I really really shouldn't be going to two concerts during the week, but it was free... how could I pass that up?

Tonight we are going to the lookingglass theater to see Manuscript found at Sarragossa. I'm pretty excited for this one.

Photos

Sue, the most complete t-rex skeleton ever.... or something.... at the field museum
A lamp store at night. That is all. Just thought it looked kinda cool.
Joe making a video on the way to the field museum.
A Jimmy Johns popped up overnight on the corner. There was never any construction or anything. One day it was just there as if it always had been. No grand opening. No big deal. Nothing. Just popped up like a weed. A weed that sells really tasty sandwhiches. Try the Vito if you're ever there.

I'm Still Alive

It's been almost a week since I've posted. Don't worry. I'm still alive... just haven't been able to get a web connection when I have time. Bullet list to keep from righting a novel:

•Went to Youssou N'Dour concert at the Symphony center
•Played Apples to Apples on Friday night... most definitely did not win
•Played Walleyball Saturday morning... Nate and I would have beaten Young and Lisa, but Nate's shoulder got messed up... it's healing from an injury or something.
•Checked out the Field Museum on Saturday Afternoon
•Saw Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Were Rabbit on Saturday night (It's not as good as chicken run, but the rabbits are awesome... pretty solid movie...last i checked it was getting a 95% on rotten tomatoes)
•went to Moody Church on Sunday Morning
•nap, laundry, and reading Sunday afternoon
•nine of us had supper together on Sunday night... we actually hauled a table down two flights of stairs so that we could eat around a table for once.
•group neighborhood presentations and pizza at CS Monday night.
•best part of the last week: The day for the arts event got changed to Friday this week. I'M GOING TO SEE THE SHOUT OUT LOUDS TOMORROW NIGHT! I talked 12 people into going to the show... only one or two had ever heard of the band, but I made everybody listen to them... 'cept for Joe... he trusts me when I say they're good.
Check out the Shout Out Louds. When your there check out the videos for The Comeback (best video) and Please, please, please (best song). Then you will be in love.

lunch on the river

It was cold this morning, but it is a super-nice fall day right now. I went down to the riverwalk and had my lunch on a bench. There are a lot of small boats on the river today. I don't think you can really see them in this picture, but they're there. I left my watch and phone on my desk and I am very bad a gauging time. I came back at 12:30... I was planning on taking it easy for a while... oh well... a few minutes to blog. Last night we played 3 on 3. I actually made a few for once. Apparently I don't have any clue how to play basketball. I guess you're not allowed to jump in the air and slam your body into people (sorry nate). Oh well... you learn something new every day right? The Shout Out Louds are going to be here next week in a $12 show, but there is an arts event that night. So it goes.

I think Johnny Cash and Harry Potter are going head to head at the box office in a few weeks. I haven't watched a single movie this semester, but I think I'll see one that night. Guess which one... I'll give you a hint... there are no wizards in it.

Oh... and i noticed after i posted on monday that the title could be confusing... something about not getting paid... just to clarify, I do get paid for monitoring the CS office. I just don't get paid for my 32 hours at Ogilvy.
